Sustainable Futurist, Speaker, Facilitator and Journalist, Jim McClelland is the ex-Editor and Founder of sustain’ Magazine.
With a Master’s degree in ‘The Word & the Visual Imagination’, Jim has amassed over 20 years’ experience in magazine publishing, with the majority of that time spent editing journals for the built environment sector.
His portfolio ranges from local newspapers, through regional and national periodicals and onto yearbooks and in-depth special reports. Freelance work includes articles authored specifically for such as blue-chip global concerns, or international markets via the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. He has recently had work featured in supplements for The Times, plus been quoted in The Sunday Times, The Guardian and The Telegraph. Events commitments include contributing in the role of programme director, chair, presenter or panellist at national and regional conferences, seminars and workshops.
He sits on the Board of Trustees of the Youth Charter for Sports, Culture & Arts and Steering Groups for such as the Defra-backed organisation for young property and construction professionals sharing an interest in sustainable development, SPONGE. He has also sat as a judge for the Environment Agency Water Efficiency Awards, Dalsouple ‘Transform the Future’ design competition, the IPA Magazine Design Awards, Interbuild New Product Awards, 100%Design Awards, plus City of London Corporation ‘Sustainable City Awards’ and Chaired both the sustain’ Magazine and OSC Awards.
Director of Sustainability at McClelland Media Ltd, Jim is also engaged by Chelgate as a Senior Consultant ‘of special counsel’ in their public affairs and public relations activities on sustainability, renewable energy and built environment matters. Based in London, Brussels and Bucharest, Chelgate has a terrific track record on both national issues and international relations, to which Jim looks to bring additional sectoral expertise, working closely with their specialist division Chelgate Environment.
In addition, from January 2012, Jim has been appointed as a Senior Consultant by Stradia, operating within their growing Sustainability business unit and across the spectrum of built environment clients, commissions and contracts. As of September 2012, this rôle has now been upgraded to Head of Sustainability.
Beginning February 2012, Jim also took up a rôle with Sustainable Life Media and now sits on the Advisory Board for the Sustainable Brands conference event SB London. An integrated media company, based in San Francisco, California, USA, SLM delivers information, produces events, and cultivates communities of interest to facilitate the shift to a flourishing and sustainable economy.
